Wild Thursday Morning Shuffle - Going Nowhere Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook

As we continue to ease into 2018 with a few days of "Wildcard" shuffles, I am excited about some of the new (and new to me) music that I will be bringing you all in this new year. Some of that new music may be leaking out in the next couple of shuffles. Stay tuned.

I was thinking this morning how our perception of temperature is kind of relative. I mean, at the beginning of fall/end of summer, the first time temperatures fall into the 50s, many of us reach for jackets. Meanwhile, at the end of winter/start of spring, when it gets up to the 50s, people can usually be seen in short sleeves and even shorts.  Anyway, right now, I would love to be putting on short sleeves or even shorts, but it is pretty darn cold.

Sending warm thoughts to everyone dealing with the snow storms. No snow in Nashville to speak of. Windchill was  below zero on my walk in though, and these are the tunes that kept me warm....

"Sea of Women" by Christopher Bell

I suppose having a sea of women is a problem if you play the cello - or at least if you play the cello like Christopher Bell.  This is a track from his album Rust, which has been hanging around in my phone for a while.  Always enjoy hearing his songs.

"Last Call" by Travis Linville

As I have often reported, there is a long-standing connection between the Oklahoma and East Nashville songwriting communities. Which is why it was  not all that strange when I found some of the Oklahoma Room CDs from Folk Alliance 2016 on a table at The 5 Spot in East Nashville - shortly after that festival ended. This is a track from that CD.  The Oklahoma Room is sponsored by Horton Records - a non-profit record label that promotes and supports some of the talented singer-songwriters that call Oklahoma home.

"The Way I See It" by Don't Believe in Ghosts

E2TG first connected with Steven Nathan with his previous band Man on Earth. When he put that band of hiatus, he wrote about 30 songs in a short period of time, and this past June, he compiled the best of those songs into the debut album of his new project Don't Believe in Ghosts. The album is called Give It Meaning. This is a track from that album.

"Going Nowhere" by The Buddies

It is always fun when a track by The Buddies shows up in a shuffle. This occasional, part-Nashville band put on one of the funnest shows I've attended in recent years (at the Radio Cafe in 2016 before it officially opened).  As I have previously reports, The Buddies features A couple of members of Black Vincent (and Welcome to Ashley) along with Nashville's Collins family (Scott and Kim from Smoking Flowers and Justin from Justin and the Cosmics).  This is a track from the self-titled The Buddies album.
"Ode to Lyle" by Cousin Kula

Next up, is a track that came into my inbox in late 2016. Cousin Kula are band from Bristol (UK), and I dig this song. I'm going to check more into their music now.

"One Way Train" by Alex Bennett

Next, we have a track from the E2TG archives. I had added this song back into my phone memory when I had created the E2TG retrospective playlist last year. I first featured this song back in August of 2012. It looks like his social media sites have disappeared, but the album is still available on Bandcamp.

"The Shit You Put Me Through" by Gloom Balloon

I think I have posted this song before, but it is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite "discoveries" of 2017. Gloom Balloon are from Iowa, and this is a track from their outstanding album with the long title that I usually copy and paste so I don't get it wrong.... okay, I'll copy and paste it... Drying the Eyes of the Goddess of Gloom, Underneath the Stars and the Moon.

"Addicted to Junk" by Henry Metal

And we close out this "wild" shuffle with one of the new tracks. Henry Metal is a heavy metal band from California that debuted in 2017 with five albums and a compilation.  They released a sixth album on January 1. This is a track from their fourth album, Metal O'Clock.  I'm loving having some awesome metal in my shuffle, and I am looking forward to hearing more from Henry Metal.
